Boston Cecilia celebrates the season

One of the city's most respected choral music groups, the Boston Cecilia, showcases Boston composer James Woodman in a seasonal concert titled The Starlit Birth on Dec. 11 and 13. Donald Teeters conducts Cecilia's annual salute to the Christmas season including four pieces by Woodman: "A Midwife's Tale," commissioned and first performed by The Boston Cecilia in 1996, which features featuring the tale of Zachel, a midwife enlisted by Joseph to attend to Mary at the time of Christ's birth. The concert also includes three 16th century Spanish carols and English carol settings including pieces by several 20th century composers. Tickets for the 8 p.m. Friday performance at the Church of the Advent in Boston and the Sunday 3 p.m. performance at All Saints Church in Brookline are $15-$62.
